I can’t think of many people that would enjoy moving in the dead of winter so I want to take a moment to help you collect your thoughts if this is something in your near future (you or a loved one).
Downsizing… (scary, I know!) We have to start somewhere but where? We love the Konmari Method because we feel it brings order to a very overwhelming task. Her method involves asking yourself if each and every item “sparks joy” and if not, get rid of it! Here are the 5 categories…
- Clothing
- Books
- Papers
- Miscellaneous items
- Sentimental items
Identify furniture you will absolutely take with you to your new place. Keep in mind it will more than likely be smaller. Start with your favorite pieces, then add a few extras such as end tables, bedside tables and dressers. Is your new place going to serve most of the meals? If so, try a smaller dining table and 2 chairs (if it’s a set of 4 place one in your bedroom for easier dressing and near the entrance to have a place for putting your shoes on).
Have you listed the house yet? Remember, just like you, others are not going to enjoy house hunting in the dead of winter!
